Pre-School Newsletter: December

Throughout December, our focus will be on Christmas and learning the Nativity story.

We will be taking part in activities focusing on each area of the Early Years Foundation Stage however, the main area will be Communication and Language.

The children will help to create a Santa’s workshop, where they will be able to develop their Communication and Language development along with their imagination skills. We will be singing Christmas songs and encouraging the children to practise them throughout December, both at Pre School and at home.

Longsands Newsletter

May 2016

Welcome back to a new term. We hope you have all had a good Easter break. We would like to welcome all the new children who are joining us this term and we are looking forward to getting to know you all.

Due to an increase in our Out of School Club numbers we will be using the school’s Reception classroom during After School Club sessions. We will be caring for Pre-school, Reception and year one children there during the Summer term. We are hoping to replace our single story building over the Summer with a double story one to give us more space and enable us to split the children by age and provide  more age appropriate furniture, toys and equipment from the Autumn term onwards. Further information will follow about this exciting project!

Discovery Vine App

We are assuming if you are reading this then you have managed to download our new Discovery Vine App. We are using this to improve our communication links between staff and parents with monthly newsletters and push notifications/messages that you will receive once you have registered. You can use the app to view staff profiles, download our prospectus or view a copy of our policies and procedures. You can also use it to change your booking pattern or update your registration details if you wish. This new form of communication is still under development so any ideas you might have to improve it will be greatfully received!

We would like to welcome Lauren Weyer who will be working in our After School Club on Tuesday and Thursday each week.

Themes and Activities

Pre-School – Our theme for the next month will be ‘Spring’. We will be looking at how things grow and life cycles of animals, plants and insects. We will be planting flowers and vegetables and are hoping to have the opportunity to hatch and watch chicks grow. We will be spending lots of time in our garden (weather permitting!) and exploring the school field. We will also be introducing a new programme- ‘Early Talk Boost’. This is an initiative designed to improve young children’s speaking and communication skills and Discovery Vine staff have recently completed the training required to deliver this programme in the setting.

After School Club – The After School Club Council met this week and decided that they would like our theme to be ‘Spring’ like the Pre-school up until May Half Term.  The council members are also preparing a new more ‘summery’ snack menu for the After School Club this term.

Discovery Vine’s management team are preparing a new folder for each After School Club that contains challenges for the children to take part in. They will also be introducing some new resource boxes this term which will include Den Building, Electronic Circuits, Code Cracking, Marble Roller Coasters, Spy Kits & Bug Hunting. We will be continuing to write to our pen-pals in the other Discovery Vine Clubs.

Extra Curricular Activities

As the school’s clubs re-commence after the break, we respectfully ask that you inform us if your child/children will be taking part in any of these. We work very closely with the school staff at the end of the day to ensure that all children get to where they are meant to be, but it can be a very hectic process for us and the school if have to keep asking which children are in the clubs.

Please also remember to let us know if you are collecting your own child/children from school on a day when they are booked into After School Club.
